Creative Partnerships 2007-2009

Shademakers education project – training, workshops and creative participation

“Kreative Partnerschaften” is a cultural education programme for young people between 16 and 24 organised by Shademakers in collaboration with regional and international partners. The programme is supported by the Regional Government / Staatskanzlei des Landes NRW.

Our aims are to enable young people to learn about art and Carnival Art (qualification, new skills), connecting regional and international activities with young people (cross-cultural learning, international exchange), to give young people an opportunity for creative participation in communities with diverse cultural backgrounds.

Partner Projects:

  • Klavierfestival Ruhr: Paul Mc Laren and Shademakers are involved in the Education and Discovery Projects annually since 2007.
  • Brouhaha International: Cultural exchange activities – Shademakers in Liverpool annually since 2006 for Brouhaha International Street Festival and Carnival including Liverpool European City of Culture Programme 2008. Brouhaha International at Carnival of Cultures in Bielefeld 2008.
    Planned collaboration for EU Culture 2007-2013 and Youth in Action Programmes in combination with the International Programme Herman 2009 in Detmold, Germany.
  • UKCCA Luton: Paul Mc Laren designs one sculpture for the UKCCA opening celebration with Colin Spalding and Rampage, Luton. Cultural exchange activtities between UKCCA and Shademakers for the International Culture Programme Herman 2009 in Detmold.
  • The Mayor’s Thames Festival, London: Shademakers perform at the Mayor’s Thames Festival annually since 2002. Cooperation project “Odyssey New Journeys” took place in 2005. Future collaborations planned.
  • NHCL Mas Band Association: Shademakers are a member of Notting Hill Mas Band association, presenting costumes at the Splash Gala and Notting Hill Carnival Parade annually since 1991.
  • International Culture Programme Herman 2009 in Detmold, “Fascination Myth”:  “Orbiters International Parade” and “Territoria XL”
    A Co-Production of Shademakers with The Lunatics (NL),
    the City of Detmold, Kreis Lippe and Kulturfabrik Hangar 21.
  • Carnival of Culture, Bielefeld: : Shademakers and Welthaus Bielefeld are presenters of the event.
